Chocolate Dessert Waffles
1/2 c. (1 stick) butter 1 1/2 c. all purpose flour
2 squares (2 oz.) Unsweetened 1 t. cream of tartar Baking Chocolate 1/2 t. baking soda 3/4 c. sugar 1/2 c. buttermilk 1 t. vanilla extract 1 c. chopped nuts
2 eggs Vanilla ice cream
In medium saucepan over low heat, melt butter and chocolate. Add sugar and vanilla; stir until blended. Remove from heat; add eggs, one at a
time, beating after each addition until well blended. Stir together flour, cream
of tartar and baking soda; add alternately with buttermilk to chocolate mixture. Stir in nuts. Bake in waffle iron according to manufacturer's directions. Carefully remove waffle from iron. (When first taken from waffle iron, the waffle will be soft, but will become crisp as it cools.)
Serve warm with scoop of ice cream.
Yield: About twelve 5-inch waffles.
